NEW for JANUARY 2025 :

British Horse Society Stage 1 and 2  Student Course

Primarily aimed at Elective Home Educuated young persons aged 13years and up and those not in full time education.

Students can be new to horse for Horse Care course but would require some basic riding skills* for the Stage 1 Complete to a least canter level.

Student's wishing to apply for Stage 2 training must complete the Stage 1 training before moving forward.

Students would be required to complete a minimum of two days a week to be equipped for assessment.

Final assessment is carried out at an Approved BHS centre chosen by the student. All assessment fees are paid by the student on application of the final assessment in consultation with the OBEC Training Manager to aid a good assessment outcome.

Horse Care Only

Candidates will be assessed on the following learning outcomes:

·        Know about the responsibilities of working on a stable yard

·        Be able to maintain a clean stable

·        Be able to carry out routine grooming tasks

·        Be able to describe horses and know about behaviour  & health

·        Be able to use & apply rugs appropriately

·        Be able to tack up & untack

·        Be able to handle a well behaved horse

·        Be able to feed & water a horse

Horse Care and Ride

Start date 23rd January 2025 for 12 weeks x 2 days a week. Predicted assessment date June 2025

Candidates will be assessed on the following learning outcomes:

·        Be able to position a horse to prepare for mounting

·        Be able to mount and dismount from a horse

·        Be able to ride in walk, trot & canter and use ground poles
